"Be Excellent to Each Other"

BSides Belfast is a conference by the information security community, for the information security community. Facilitating a pleasant atmosphere for all attendees (including organisers, speakers, volunteers, and sponsors) is a core aim of the BSides Belfast organisers and as an attendee you agree to be bound by the BSides Belfast Attendee Code-of-Conduct. This code of conduct must be adhered to at all BSides Belfast conference venues, including the after-party venue, and should also apply to attendee interaction via social media and other on-line platforms in relation to our event. We expect cooperation from all participants, sponsors and organisers to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.

Purpose of this Code-of-Conduct

• To ensure a constructive, inclusive and pleasant atmosphere for all volunteers and attendees of the BSides Belfast conference.
• To ensure that all attendees know what behaviour they have a right to expect from other attendees.
• To ensure that all attendees know what behaviour is expected of them whilst attending BSides Belfast.

Respect for Others

All attendees must:

• Treat the organisers and volunteers with respect and follow any instructions given. The BSides Belfast volunteers and organisers have given up a significant amount of their time, to facilitate this conference for the benefit of the attendees.
• Respect the presenters. Do not talk among yourselves during their presentations, ensure your mobile phones are on silent mode or switched off, and once you're inside a presentation, avoid leaving until the end where possible so as to minimise disruption to the other attendees and the presenter. If the presenter requests that phones are turned off, or that no photos are to be taken of the presentation, you must adhere to this. Heckling or harassment of presenters will not be tolerated. Asking questions is what makes this a community, but respect the presenter's method of handling questions during any presentation and allow other attendees the opportunity to ask questions too.
• Treat everyone present at the conference fairly and equally.
• Understand that harassment of ANY type will not be tolerated, including but not limited to verbal, physical, sexual, online harassment, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, and inappropriate or unwelcome physical contact.
• Not discriminate against any other attendee.
• Allow others to express themselves and understand that all views are important even if they are not the same as your own (as long as no harm is caused by such views).
• Sponsors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, sponsors should not use inappropriate images, activities, or other material to promote themselves to attendees.

Equal Opportunities

All attendees must:

• Understand, respect and act at all times without prejudice to race, age, ethnicity, disability, physical appearance, body size, gender, gender identity and expression, physical or mental health, religion (or lack thereof), sexual orientation, cultural background, or technology choices.
• Understand that all forms of discrimination, including bullying and harassment are unacceptable. Listen and adhere to the organiser's and volunteer's instructions.

Photography and Videography

All attendees must:

• Respect the privacy of other attendees when photographing or video recording.
• Understand that it is your responsibility to ask for permission before photographing or video recording another attendee.
• Understand that the BSides Belfast presentations will be professionally recorded by a designated BSides Belfast videographer for public release after the event. With this in mind, attendees should not video record any presentation in its entirety.
• Respect the yellow lanyards - these individuals do not wish to be photographed or have video footage taken.

Reporting

If you have an issue with any BSides Belfast attendee/participant, or have any concerns whatsoever in relation to safety or inappropriate conduct, please immediately notify a BSides Belfast organiser (recognisable by their T-shirt). We will then determine appropriate next steps. If you have a concern prior to or after the event, please contact us via Twitter or email. Conference staff will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance.

Enforcement

Any attendee found to have engaged in behaviour violating this code of conduct may have their ticket invalidated and be expelled from the event without a refund at the sole discretion of the BSides Belfast organisers.

Security BSides Belfast Data Privacy Statement

Security BSides Belfast is a conference by the information security community, for the information security community.

Privacy Policy

• Security BSides Belfast respects your privacy. The details you provide when registering for the event are not disclosed to any third-parties except insofar as is required in order for us to fulfil our contractual obligation to you, to host and deliver the BSides Belfast event.
• The personal details that you provide to Security BSides Belfast (which may include name and email) are only used to register you for the event, provide access to necessary platforms as required to deliver the event, and to keep you informed of the event logistics and announcements.
• Your personal details are stored on specific cloud-based platforms that enable Security BSides Belfast to communicate with you and to deliver the virtual conference event. Personal details are not disclosed for any other purpose unless required by law.

When do we contact you?

Security BSides Belfast may contact you:

• In relation to any of our services, events, activities or online content you have signed up to/registered for.
  
• In relation to any correspondence we receive from you.
• In relation to any contribution you have submitted to, or about, Security BSides Belfast and our services, events and activities, including online blog posts, tweets or other media.
  
• To invite you to participate in an after-event survey about Security BSides Belfast.

Data Retention

How long will the data be kept?

We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as it is necessary for the delivery of the current year’s event and after-event survey. We do not retain personal information from previous year’s events, nor do we ‘carry over’ personal information to subsequent years. After the after-event survey has been completed, we delete that year’s personal information.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics as a third party tracking service, but we don’t use it to track you individually or collect your Personal Information. We use Google Analytics to collect information about how our website performs and how our users, in general, navigate through and use the Site. This helps us evaluate our users’ use of the Site; compile statistical reports on activity; and improve our content and website performance.

Google Analytics gathers certain simple, non-personally identifying information over time, such as your IP address, browser type, internet service provider, referring and exit pages, timestamp, and similar data about your use of the Site. We do not link this information to any of your personal information such as your name or email address.

BSides Belfast will not, nor will we allow any third party to, use the Google Analytics tool to track our users individually; collect any Personal Information other than IP address; or correlate your IP address with your identity. Google provides further information about its own privacy practices and offers a browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics tracking.

Certain pages on our site may set other third party cookies. For example, we may embed content, such as maps, from another site that sets a cookie. While we try to minimize these third party cookies, we can’t always control what cookies this third party content sets.

Log Files

BSides Belfast uses logs to track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.

Conference Registration - Tito

BSides Belfast via its provider Tito and their partners collects the following information in order to facilitate your purchase of ticket(s) and other conference merchandise:

• Name
• Email address
• Credit card information
• Country
• Postcode
• IP address
• Phone number (if you elect to deliver your ticket(s) via text message)

BSides Belfast’s provider will use this information to validate your credit card purchase and deliver your tickets. BSides Belfast will use your name and email address to provide you with important information about your conference registration and opportunities to attend future events. You may unsubscribe from future emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any non-transactional email or by emailing info[@]bsidesbelfast.org.

Mailing List

BSides Belfast provides the following information to Mailchimp in order to send non-transactional emails (i.e. newsletters and information about future events):

• Name
• Email address
• Interests in sponsoring, presenting, volunteering, etc.
• Past conferences attended

You may unsubscribe from these emails at any time by clicking on the unsubscribe link included at the bottom of each email or by emailing info[@]bsidesbelfast.org.

Talk Submission - Sessionize

BSides Belfast via its provider Sessionize collects the following information from presentation submitters:

• Name
• Email address
• T-shirt size

We will use this information to contact you and/or provide updates regarding the presentation / workshop you submitted. If you do not wish for us to retain this information, please contact program[@]bsidesbelfast.org to request removal from the submissions.

Tracking

“Do Not Track” is a privacy preference you can set in your browser if you do not want online services to collect and share certain kinds of information about your online activity from third party tracking services. We do not track your online browsing activity on other online services over time, and we do not permit third-party services to track your activity on our site beyond our basic Google Analytics tracking, which you may opt out of here. Because we do not share this kind of data with third party services or permit this kind of third party data collection on the Site for any of our users, and we do not track our users on third-party websites ourselves, we do not need to respond differently to an individual browser’s Do Not Track setting.

Volunteer Registration 

BSides Belfast via its provider Keybase collects the following information from volunteers:

• Name

• Email address

• Phone number

We will use this information to contact you and/or provide updates regarding the volunteer positions you register interest for. If you do not wish to volunteer after signing up, please contact volunteers[@]bsidesbelfast.org to request removal from the volunteer list.

Disclosure

BSides Belfast will not sell, trade, or otherwise disclose your Personal Information to third parties except when necessary to fulfill your conference registration and participation, store order, when compelled to by applicable laws and regulations or a valid and legal court order (such as a subpoena, search warrant, or other lawful request for information we receive), or to otherwise protect our rights. If we are going to release your Personal Information, our policy is to provide you with notice unless we are prohibited from doing so by law or court order (including orders under 18 U.S.C. § 2705(b)).

Changes

We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons.
